No other community along the Erie Canal offers 5 museums with 3 being 1826 vintage. The Historic Palmyra Museums are non-profit, 501c-3 and feature one of the largest collections anywhere with each of the 5 museums having its own items and collections. From the Alling Coverlet which offers the largest collection of handwoven coverlets, to the Palmyra Print Shop’s original type from 1820-1970 and printing presses, to the original Phelps General Store offering history from 1826 through 1940; the Palmyra Historical Museum, a 23 room old hotel and tavern, and our newest Erie Canal Depot. Tours are given from 10:30 to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday until Nov. 1st with winter hours 11-4 Tues. – Thursday until May 10th.
